I am certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a therapy model that specifically focuses on how you and your partner communicate and not what you and your partner communicate about.
I have over 15 years experience providing individual therapy and couples therapy in San Diego. I have helped numerous couples re-establish a connection with their relationship – in ways that make them feel heard and understood by one another. I use EFT as my primary focus because it works. EFT is the only empirically supported model for working with couples in distress.

I also provide individual therapy for individuals in San Diego who are struggling with issues like anxiety, feeling lost, social anxiety, anger management, and depression.

Individual Therapy in San Diego

Individual therapy is a one-on-one process, usually on a weekly basis. These sessions will be based on you and the issues you want to address. Typically this is an intensive process, where I will help to create a safe space for you to begin to stretch yourself  and begin to explore yourself in a deep, meaningful way. It is my goal to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, have increased self-esteem, and be more comfortable with your place in the world.

Couples Therapy in San Diego

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term therapy approach for working with couples. EFT has been proven to create long-term change with helping couples reconnect and fall back in love with one another. EFT focuses on creating a secure connection by helping couples learn how to stop destructive communication cycles when they occur. It also provides couples with tools to be able to reach toward each other in moments of distress instead of turning away from one another.
Many couples begin their relationships with love, positivity and a deep sense of connection. Sometimes along the way, discord starts to enter into the relationship. When this happens, what seems like the smallest or silliest thing can start a huge blowup. Couples that at first felt connected now feel like bitter enemies.
Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, I join with couples where they are currently, and I assist them to make sense of the painful place they find themselves. I help couples to understand why they feel so stuck, and how their desire to connect can actually feed the negative patterns they find themselves in. I then work with couples to find ways to re-connect with one another – ways that provide both partners with a felt sense of feeling heard and understood by the person that means the most to them.
Emotionally Focused Therapy also works with individuals! I can help you make sense of the negative patterns happening in your relationship, and give you the tools to help cope.

Congratulations on this first step toward improving your life. Even if you are only considering therapy, this first step of “seeing what’s out there” might be a little anxiety-provoking. You might be wondering how to pick the right therapist for you, or if you even need therapy to begin with. I hope that this site will help to answer some of your questions, and give you an idea of who I am and how I might assist you.

If you have come this far, you may have already decided that you might need some professional help.  Unfortunately, there can be a negative stigma about going to see a professional for assistance, and our society seems to promote the idea that seeing a therapist means that there is something wrong with you, or that you’re “crazy.” There could be nothing further from the truth! We live extremely complex lives, experiencing pressures at work, at home, and with our families. Sometimes it can get overwhelming, and sometimes we can feel lost and alone.

Going to a therapist can be intimidating, and therapy can be difficult at times – but I believe that the times that we push ourselves beyond our comfort zones are the times we grow the most. It is my job to provide a safe and secure environment to help you explore yourself and your relationships, and to help you push beyond what is holding you back.

I truly believe that finding the right therapist for you is one of the most important first steps in this process. Ideally, you would want to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with, and yet also confident that the therapist can help you.
